A queer community in the Netherlands

A space where you can exhale

Kindred Faeries is a queer community rooted in the Radical Faerie tradition; a place to gather, connect, and be wholly, magically yourself.

Who we are

Rooted in spirit, open to everyone

We're a queer community in the spirit of the Radical Faeries; a movement of spiritual exploration, creative expression, and radical inclusivity. We make spaces where queer people can gather, slow down, and be authentically themselves.

Warmth and tenderness, openness and calm, with a thread of the mystical running through everything. No hierarchies, no sharp edges, just a circle you're welcome to step into.

How we began

A circle of our own

We'd been gathering with faeries for years before this, holding space at other people's circles and learning what that really asks of you. In time we wanted something of our own, closer to home, so we started building it. Kindred Faeries is that: a community rooted here in the Netherlands, made by people who kept turning up for each other.

Our first gathering was The Rekindling, held in Bergeijk, and it told us everything we needed to know. There was something worth tending here. It happens yearly now, around Beltane, and it's the heart the rest of our work grows around.

What we're building

Stable, affordable space for queer joy

We organise gatherings in the Netherlands, and now and then across the border in Belgium. Our aim is simple to say and harder to do: make these gatherings stable, lasting, and genuinely affordable, so that queer and LGBTQIA+ folx can come whatever their means.

That's why we follow NOTAFLOF; No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds. Money should never be the reason someone misses out on connection, rest, or a weekend of being fully themselves. We'd rather find a way than turn a faerie away.

Affordable is only half of it; a space also has to feel safe. We work to make our gatherings safer and welcoming for everyone, across the whole breadth of queer and LGBTQIA+ experience. That means consent and care at the centre, clear agreements about how we treat each other, and a circle where you can show up as your whole self without having to brace or explain. Inclusion isn't a footnote for us; it's the point.

Underneath it all is the thing we care about most: helping queer people find their tribe, easing the loneliness so many of us carry, and spreading a bit of love and joy that lasts longer than any single week.

What we believe

Five things at the heart of the circle

Our values shape how we gather, how we speak, and how we hold space for one another.

Radical inclusivity

Everyone belongs. Our language and our spaces avoid hierarchies and sharp edges; there's room here for all of you.

Authentic expression

We celebrate individuality. Come as you are; we're warm and human, never polished to sterility.

Gentle magic

There's something mystical in what we do. Our gatherings hint at the otherworldly and the sacred.

Community care

Tenderness is strength. We lead with compassion and look after one another, in and beyond the circle.

Creative freedom

Rules are guides, not cages. The community breathes and adapts; there is always space to make something new.

Step into a space where you can set down the weight you've been carrying, and simply be among kindred.

Gatherings

Where we'll meet next

We organise gatherings across the Netherlands, and sometimes over the border in Belgium. Here's what's coming up.

16–22 November 2026 Schorisse, Belgium

Autumn Alchemy

Our next gathering, six nights in a group house in the woods of the Flemish Ardennes. Meals cooked together, heart circles, workshops from whoever feels called, long walks, and evenings round the fire basket as the nights draw in.

The Rekindling

Our home gathering, held yearly around Beltane. Where Kindred Faeries began, and where we return to remember why.

What to expect

The spirit of every gathering

Our gatherings will grow with the community, but the heart of them stays the same.

01

A gentle welcome

No need to perform or explain yourself. You'll be met with warmth and given space to arrive at your own pace.

02

Connection over agenda

Circles, conversation, shared food and quiet moments. We come together to be present with one another.

03

Room for the creative & the sacred

Ritual, play, music, making; whatever helps us touch the magical. Bring your whole self and your curiosity.

04

Care that lasts

The circle continues beyond any single gathering. We stay in touch, check in, and hold space for each other.

Who's holding the space

The faeries behind the gatherings

We met each other at gatherings over the years, and we've each held space in different ways: facilitating, cooking, caring, organising. Kindred Faeries is what we make together.

O

Omni they/them

Co-founder, and the one usually tangled up in the tech side of things. Omni cares about building spaces, both the kind you stand in and the kind you log into, where queer people can simply exhale.

D

Dusk he/him

Co-founder and co-facilitator. A counsellor by day and a gentle soul by nature, Dusk is wonderful at holding space for queer people of every background. He listens with an open mind and an open heart.

F

Forrest he/they

Co-founder and co-facilitator, also known as Hirundo. By day Forrest cares for the environment and for trees; in the circle he's a gentle soul who holds space, listens deeply, and offers up little nuggets of truth and wisdom.

E

Egg they/them

Co-facilitator, egg-cellent organiser, and our resident Care Bear. Egg looks after the welfare side of a gathering and quietly keeps everything running. Away from the circle they're at an amusement park, or somewhere deep in all things Disney.

M

Moment he/him

Kitchen manager for The Rekindling and The Total Eclipse, known lovingly as Kitchen Karen. Moment gardens, and he cooks the kind of meals the whole circle is still talking about weeks later.

Connection between gatherings

The magic doesn't have to end on Sunday

Gatherings are wonderful, and they end. The week after is often when the loneliness creeps back in. So alongside the in-person circle, we're building FaeTech: digital spaces to keep faeries connected when we're apart.

YooHoo Social

Live now

Our web app for organising gatherings and queer events. It's the same platform we use to run our own gatherings, made so any group can plan, share, and bring people together.

Fae Social

Coming soon

A queer social network built on open foundations. Fae Social runs on ActivityPub, so it connects with Mastodon and the wider open social web rather than locking anyone in. A social feed, posting and sharing, following, group and private chat with end-to-end encryption, voice chat, and even a 2D open-world spatial voice space where you can wander and talk like you would at a gathering.

Same intention as everything else we do: real connection, on our own terms, owned by the community rather than an algorithm.

The bigger picture

Building something that lasts

We're forming Kindred Faeries as a non-profit (stichting) in the Netherlands. That gives us a stable base to seek grants and donations, which in turn lets us keep gatherings affordable and hold to NOTAFLOF without quietly going broke.

The non-profit also lets us safeguard the digital side. FaeTech is built to be shared: our goal is to license YooHoo Social and Fae Social to other organisations fostering queer and Radical Faerie community, so the tools that help us find each other can help others too.

Gatherings, technology, and a non-profit to hold them; all in service of the same thing. Helping queer people find their people, in real life and online, and spreading a little more love and joy in the world.

Stichting in oprichting

We'd love your help

Kindred Faeries is a stichting in oprichting; a foundation in the making. That means we're building it right now, and there's real room for people who want to help shape it.

Board members

Help steer the new stichting, bring your judgement and care to how we're run, and help us build something that lasts.

Facilitators

Help us hold and organise current and future gatherings. And if you've got an idea for a gathering of your own, come and tell us; we love supporting faeries to bring their visions to life.

Social media & newsletter

Help us tell our story, keep the community in the loop, and share the love between gatherings.

Developers

Fancy contributing to FaeTech? We're building YooHoo Social and Fae Social in the open and would welcome other hands and hearts on the code.

You don't need to have it all figured out, and there are no wrong reasons to get in touch. If you're curious, say hello.
